MUSINGS OF A SHIBE PODCAST: A DOGECOIN SHOW INTERVIEW WITH DENIS AKA UNICON_BUTT_SEX
On March 16, 2014, Reddit user Denis Pavel posting under the username “unicorn_butt_sex” noticed Wise racing an unsponsored car at the Food City 500. Pavel went to Reddit with the idea of sponsoring a car. As a member of the NASCAR community on Reddit, he had seen the community rally behind drivers before. Pavel also reached out to the Dogecoin community, a cryptocurrency based off the internet meme, Doge, that had raised funds for other various causes, including the Jamaican bobsled team at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. With endorsements from both communities, Pavel contacted Phil Parsons Racing and was told that the communities needed to raise $55,000 to sponsor Wise at the Aaron’s 499, or just over 67 million Dogecoins. With help from several wealthy individuals, the communities came up with the money one week later on March 25. Wise ran with the Dogecoin-wrapped car on May 4, running as high as 4th and finishing 20th, his second-best finish at the time.
The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, abbreviated to NASCAR, is currently referred as the largest sanctioning body of stock car racing in the United States. The 66th season is now finalized, with Kevin Harvick, Chase Elliott, and Matt Crafton crowned with the drivers’ national championships. The three largest racing series sanctioned by NASCAR are the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series. The NASCAR season consists of a series of races held on purpose-built race tracks. The results of each race are combined to determine two annual NASCAR Championships for each series, one for the drivers and one for the manufacturers. NASCAR cars race at high speeds, up to 200 mph (320 km/h). The cars are capable of pulling in excess of five G-forces in some curves. Charlotte, North Carolina is NASCAR’s traditional center, where most of the teams are based. However, the sport’s scope has expanded significantly in recent years with races being held all over North America.
